    Onboarding & introduction

Joint introduction to the maturity assessment and alignment on the approach.

  2. Step 02

    Interviews & data collection

Structured interviews with decision-makers based on the BIM question catalogue.

  3. Step 03

    Workshop & validation

Joint discussion, classification and validation of the results.

  4. Step 04

    Evaluation & maturity level

Assessment based on the BIM maturity model and derivation of the fields of action.

BDFsmart BIM maturity model as a circular chart: five dimensions with four indicators each – strategy (BIM status quo, BIM strategy, BIM introduction, BIM business model), project (BIM tendering, BIM project, BIM management, IAG/BAP), process (business process, BIM use case, standardisation, implementation), technology (IT infrastructure, BIM tools, standardisation, implementation) and people (change management, executive management, employees, education and training)

Our BIM maturity model assesses your company holistically across the five dimensions of strategy, project, process, technology and people.

BDFsmart BIM approach model: four phases, each with one workshop – 1 analyse the strategy (vision, mission and values; internal and external market analysis; maturity assessment; SWOT analysis), 2 define the strategy (strategic goals; fields of action; definition of measures), 3 implement the strategy (implementation over 3 to 5 years; annual action plan; implementation concept), 4 review the strategy (review annual goals; make adjustments)

Our methodology moves through four phases, from analysing and defining to implementing and reviewing your BIM strategy.

BIM transformation

Detail from the BIM transformation at Tozzo AG

BDFsmart supported the construction company with the maturity assessment and the development of a company-wide BIM strategy. Based on the maturity level identified, strategic fields of action were defined, concrete measures derived and a clear roadmap for the further digital transformation developed.

The strategy developed subsequently formed the basis for the further BIM rollout within the organisation and in specific construction projects.

Frequently asked questions about BIM strategy

Which companies is a BIM assessment suitable for?

The assessment is aimed in particular at planning and engineering firms and building and civil engineering contractors who want to develop their digital transformation in a structured way. It creates transparency about the current level of maturity and shows where specific action is needed.

How does a BIM maturity assessment work?

The maturity assessment takes place in several steps. After a joint introduction, structured interviews are held with the relevant decision-makers. The results are validated together and then evaluated using our BIM maturity model.

Can the maturity assessment and strategy development also be commissioned separately?

Yes. Both services can be used individually or in combination. A prior maturity assessment does, however, create a sound basis for aligning the BIM strategy with the company's actual maturity level and fields of action.

What effort is required on the client side?

The maturity assessment and strategy development are worked out together with selected decision-makers and relevant specialists. The time required is concentrated on interviews, workshops and the joint validation of the results. We take care of the preparation, evaluation and documentation.

What does the company receive as a result?

Depending on the scope, you receive a structured maturity assessment with a BIM maturity level, prioritised fields of action and concrete recommendations, as well as a practical BIM strategy with an aligned target vision, measures and a clear roadmap for implementation.
